About me
Hi, I’m Sophie. Thanks a lot for taking the time to look at my website.
I’m a thirty-something step-mum, dog mum, and (aspiring) plant mum living in York with my family. Work-life balance is really important to me, so when I’m not coaching I can be found out and about with my cockapoo, Lola (who also loves to make an appearance on coaching calls!) or testing out a new recipe on my family. I love reading and I’m always on the lookout for a new favourite book. Reality TV is my guilty pleasure and I love nothing more than a new series of MAFS!
My story
My relationship with food and movement has been rocky from as early as I can remember. Growing up, food was used as a reward, whilst treats simultaneously felt scarce and like they needed to be eaten instantly. I first remember comfort eating aged 8, and this developed into recurrent binge eating episodes. Throughout my teenage years and early twenties I was trapped in a binge-restriction cycle. It feels like I lost a lot of years of my life to bingeing and dieting. I wasn’t naturally sporty growing up, and so my only experience of exercise was school P.E., which led to me associating movement with shame and embarrassment. I never understood why people played sports, went hiking, or joined gyms. Whilst therapy changed my life in so many ways, it only went some way to healing my relationship with food. I realise now that it was very behaviour-focused, and it wasn’t until I worked on my mindset around food and movement that I saw sustainable change.
I’ve always been drawn to people-focused roles at work, and both personally and professionally I get a lot of fulfilment from supporting others to achieve their goals. I first heard about coaching in 2019 and couldn’t believe that there were people who did this for a living! For a long while I didn’t believe that I could be a coach, but in 2021 I realised that good things in life often come with risks, and that I had to back myself. I took the plunge and spent the next two years studying alongside full-time work, qualifying in 2023.
From the moment I qualified, I’ve known there’s only one thing I want to coach people on, and that’s their relationship with food and movement. My passion in life is supporting women to make sustainable changes to their relationship with food and movement, so that they can live their lives free from the constant mind-chatter about food and exercise.
I know first-hand how impossible it feels to imagine a life that isn’t consumed by the constant pursuit of weight loss or ‘health’, but as someone who now eats the cake (and stops when she’s full), wears the bikini, walks confidently into the gym, hikes the mountains, forgets about the chocolate in the house, and appreciates her body for everything it does, I know you can too. I’m so glad you’re here.
